Seemingly no different, than all days before,
Waving goodbyes, at windows and doors.
Saying I love you, with kisses and hugs,
Families expressing, their feelings with love.

No thoughts of the horror, coming their way,
No thoughts of the husband, who would never again say.
To his family I love you, something short, something sweet,
More than just words, of affection we speak.

No thoughts of a mother, who would never again hold,
Her child in her arms, to rock him so slow.
No shoulder to lean on, no one left to guide,
A husband who's walking, with no wife at his side.

For some a child’s mother, who will never again hear,
Her voice singing lullabies, soft in their ear.
Some lost a sibling, grandparent or friend,
And all were left hurting, when this day would end.

Feeling so helpless, on a day of such need,
Wishing and praying, we could change what would be.
Our mouths would hang open, as the news trickled in,
In awe of the pictures, again, and again.
